IRON DAMES CLINCHES SECOND FIA WEC POLE OF 2024 AHEAD OF 6 HOURS OF SÃO PAULO

IRON DAMES CLINCHES SECOND FIA WEC POLE OF 2024 AHEAD OF 6 HOURS OF SÃO PAULO

The Iron Dames #85 will begin the team’s South American debut in Brazil from pole position, after Sarah Bovy topped a FIA World Endurance Championship Qualifying session for the second time in 2024.

Sarah took to the wheel of the Lamborghini Huracán LMGT3 Evo 2 for the session. In tricky conditions, with rain in the air, she navigated a close field to top the first part of Qualifying with a 1 minute 35.299 seconds in the final minute. This secured a spot in the Hyperpole session, where she had to repeat the feat.

Despite an early red flag in Hyperpole, Sarah focused on the task at hand. With her penultimate lap, she set a benchmark of 1m34.413 for the rest of the field to beat. None of the other drivers were able to topple the time, and the times failed to improve across the board on the final lap which secured pole position for the team. It is also Sarah’s fifth pole of 2024, across FIA WEC and the European Le Mans Series.

A second pole position of 2024 builds on the momentum laid down by the Iron Dames last weekend in Italy, where they took victory from pole position in the European Le Mans Series. It also moves the team into fifth in the FIA Endurance Trophy for LMGT3 Teams. The 6 Hours of São Paulo begins at 11:30 local time on Sunday 14 July.

Taking pole at São Paulo feels different because it is a track synonymous with Ayrton Senna. I’m a bit emotional right now because this is very special. Thank you very much to the entire team for giving me a great car again and I can’t wait go racing tomorrow.
