Iron Dame Doriane Pin picked-up Revelation of the Year honours at the FIA WEC prize-giving ceremony in Bahrain, following a stellar debut in the highest level of endurance racing. She is the very first woman to win this coveted award.
The World Endurance Championship’s Revelation of the Year award acknowledges outstanding newcomers and celebrates their dedication, perseverance, and undeniable potential in the highly competitive arena of endurance racing. The 19-year-old Frenchwoman Doriane joins the ranks of distinguished past recipients and consolidates her reputation as one of the leading talents of the next generation.
Doriane Pin graduated to prototype racing in January after competing in the GTE-Am class of the 2022 European Le Mans Series, where she took a fantastic victory at the season finale. She had never even driven an LMP2 car when PREMA Racing gave her a swift initiation in pre-season testing at the end of 2022. Then, she impressed mightily since her first laps and just kept on progressing at an impressive rate, with a thirst for learning that characterises her.
With her experienced team-mates Mirko Bortolotti and Daniil Kvyat, she enjoyed a solid start to her campaign at Sebring International Raceway, where she became the first woman to stand on the FIA WEC LMP2 podium, finishing a remarkable second on debut.
The highs continued soon after for the young Iron Dame, when at Porimão she became the first woman in LMP2 history to begin a race from pole position. With another strong performance, she and her team-mates finished a fine fourth.
Throughout the year, the Frenchwoman’s race fastest race laps were often highly comparable to those of her more experienced, Platinum-graded team-mates, highlighting the impressive strides she has made throughout her first year of prototype racing.
To close out the year, at the 8 Hours of Bahrain, she and her co-drivers recovered from an early incident to finish a very strong fifth to round out a stellar season.
Alongside her WEC debut, Doriane has also been making her mark this season in the IMSA Endurance cup, Nort America most hotly contested GT Competition that took her to the most iconic tracks including Daytona, Watkins Glen and Road Atlanta as part of the Iron Dames team.
Born 6 January 2004 in France, Doriane Pin started karting in 2013 and became French karting champion in 2019. She stepped up to the Renault Clio Cup in 2020, before taking several GT3 podiums in the 2021 Michelin Le Mans Cup.
The Iron Dame tested an FIA Formula 3 car in 2021 and gave her the opportunity to gain further valuable racing experience. A highly-accomplished competitor, Doriane already is a Ferrari Challenge Trofeo Pirelli Champion, the Gold Cup class in the 2022 24 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps and was presented with the prestigious Volant d’Or Award by the French Federation of Automobile Sport.
I am truly honoured and humbled to receive this award. Being crowned Revelation of the Year in such a prestigious and competitive championship as FIA WEC means the world to me. It reflects all the work that I have done this year. I want to thank those who gave me this opportunity and put their trust in me; the Iron Dames project and PREMA Racing and each of you guys in the team, it’s been a real pleasure to work with all of you. I have developed a lot as a driver and as a person. I will remember this year for a long time, my first season in FIA WEC representing the Iron Dames project, my first podium at Sebring and my first Le Mans 24 Hours. I take this award as an extra motivation to continue learning and pushing my limits to make my dreams come true.
