F1 Academy results: Doriane Pin tastes victory at Shanghai season opener

Doriane Pin got the F1 Academy season underway with the opening round at Shanghai. Racing under the Iron Dames banner, the French driver claimed victory in the second race of the weekend, and now sits at the top of the points table.

Doriane Pin kicked off her F1 Academy campaign falling just short of pole during Qualifying, securing second place on the grid for Race 2 and seventh for the opening round at the wheel of the Prema car.

In Race 1, Doriane negotiated the chaos of multiple Safety Car restarts, exhibiting her astute race craft as she carved a path through the pack. She made a decisive move past Alba Larsen early on and avoided a late collision between Larsen and Emma Felbermayr to open her 2025 account with a solid fourth-place finish, kickstarting her championship challenge.

Doriane was at her brilliant best in Race 2. After a rolling start, she was on the offensive straight away, seizing the lead with a bold move around the outside of polesitter Maya Weug at Turn 1. Once ahead, she never looked back, expertly managing a Safety Car restart before pulling two seconds clear of Weug. Crossing the line to claim her first win of the season, Doriane capped off an impressive opening weekend to top the Drivers’ standings.

It was a good weekend overall and a great start to the season in Shanghai. We did a decent job in Qualifying to get second, but we only used one set of new tyres when almost everyone else used two so we did well. Race 1 was a bit of a comprimise starting seventh, so we wanted to climb as much as possible. Finishing fourth was a good result from there. We worked really hard to put everything together for Race 2 and we nailed it, taking the lead at the start and managing to stay in front to win it. I’m really happy about the job we’ve done and the progression so far. All of the Chinese fans were amazing. Now my focus is on the second race in Jeddah.
